This intimate landform lies beside Birkenhills on the A947 not far from Turriff.* It has a timeless, cairn-like quality, accentuated by the ever changing farmland that pulls away from it. It’s a very damp place and the water has obviously risen and fallen, eroding and exposing ancient sediment at the base of the mound. A deep pool lies at the foot of it hidden from the road. I absolutely love it!

(*Turiff or “Turra” as it is fondly known is derived from the Gaelic ‘torr’ – a mound or round hill…. and there are plenty of these in the area!)
